Mark Mihal, from Creve Coeur, Mo., was playing Annbriar Golf Course, a place he frequents, when ground gave way to the 43-year-old, dropping him 18 feet into the middle of a dirt abyss.

Ancient 'Micro-Continent' Found Under Indian Ocean
The remains of a micro-continent scientist call Mauritia might be preserved under huge amounts of ancient lava beneath the Indian Ocean, a new analysis of island sands in the area suggests.
These findings hint that such micro-continents may have occurred more frequently than previously thought, the scientists who conducted the study, detailed online Feb. 24 in the journal Nature Geoscience, say.

AMRITSAR, India (Reuters) - British Prime Minister David Cameron says a giant diamond his country forced India to hand over in the colonial era that was set in a royal crown will not be returned.
Speaking on the third and final day of a visit to India aimed at drumming up trade and investment, Cameron ruled out handing back the 105-carat Koh-i-Noor diamond, now on display in the Tower of London. The diamond had been set in the crown of the current Queen Elizabeth's late mother.

Canadian astronaut Chris Hadfield (@Cmdr_Hadfield) treated us to another photograph from space before signing off from Twitter last night, but this one looked more like an ancient fossilized shell than a massive geological formation.
Originally thought to be the site of an asteroid impact, The Eye of the Sahara — more formally known as the Richat Structure — is a 40km wide, eroded rock dome in the west African nation of Mauritania that has been firmly identified as having a terrestrial origin.

A team of amateurs has discovered evidence for 42 alien planets, including a Jupiter-size world that could potentially be habitable, by sifting through data from a NASA spacecraft.
Forty volunteers with the crowd-sourcing Planet Hunters project discovered the new planet candidates, which include 15 potentially habitable worlds and PH2 b, a Jupiter-size planet that the team confirmed to be in the habitable zone of its parent star.

A magician-turned-prankster on YouTube has once again baffled drive-through employees, this time by dressing up in a seat costume.
Magic of Rahat posted a video this week that shows the trickster driving through fast-food restaurants with the seat costume on and terrifying workers when it looks like the car has driven itself.

A couple remodeling their Detroit home discovered a past resident’s secret history: A treasure trove of love letters from a World War II veteran long before he had married.
Hubert Sawyers III and Eliza Sorise-Sawyers came across the stash lodged in a heating duct. The documents included handwritten letters, black-and-white photos and military discharge papers.
