GEORGETOWN, Guyana - Caribbean Airlines says there were 12 Canadians aboard their flight that crashed in Guyana early Saturday morning.
The crash caused several injuries but no deaths among the 163 people who were on board.
Foreign Affairs in Ottawa issued a statement saying it has been in contact with local authorities and was told one of the Canadians aboard suffered a minor injury.
It says consular aid is being made available if needed.
The plane overshot the runway at Cheddi Jagan International Airport in rainy weather after departing from New York.

In his 1,500-page manifesto, confessed Norwegian mass killer Anders Behring Breivik claimed allegiance to a resurrected version of the Knights Templar, a medieval formation of Christian soldiers who waged brutal battle against Islam for control of the Holy Land and its relics. Breivik also wrote favorably of the mentorship of a British man known as "Richard (the Lionhearted)," who he credits for imparting to him the secrets of the Templar tradition.In an exclusive report, AP correspondent Simon Haydon writes that he has located "Richard," whose actual name is Paul Ray, living in exile in Malta. In an interview with Haydon, Ray confirmed that he is associated with "a loose group of anti-Islamic extremists inspired by the Knights Templar," but denied that Breivik was associated with the group, or that he had served as Breivik's mentor.

Some would see the property and call it “a crack between two buildings.” Centrala architect Jakub Szczesny saw potential in the narrow space in Warsaw’s Wola district.
Szczesny took the property sliver and designed a livable art installation called Ermitage.
When it’s completed, it will be the skinniest house in Poland — and possibly the world — measuring 72 centimetres at its narrowest and a mere 122 centimetres at its widest.

SYDNEY - An Air Canada flight returned to Sydney airport on Thursday after crew members saw smoke coming from an oven in the galley, an airline official said.
No one on Flight AC34 was injured in the incident, which forced the pilot to dump fuel before safely landing the plane in Sydney, said Jeannie Foster, Air Canada's general manager for Australia and New Zealand.
"There was smoke seen by a crew member in an oven so the captain made the right decision and decided to come back to Sydney to check it out as a safety precaution," Foster told The Associated Press.

Norway PM says attacks response to be 'more democracy' as Norwegians try to move forward
OSLO - Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg vowed Wednesday that the twin terror attacks that have stunned his country will not intimidate Norway and that his countrymen will fight back with "more democracy."
Norwegians will defend themselves by showing they are not afraid of violence and by participating more broadly in politics, he told reporters.
"It's absolutely possible to have an open, democratic, inclusive society, and at the same time have security measures and not be naive," he said.
Stoltenberg underlined his commitment to openness, defending freedom of thought even if includes extremist views such as those held by the 32-year-old Norwegian who confessed to Friday's bomb blast at government headquarters and to the shooting massacre at a Labor Party youth camp hours later. At least 76 people were killed.

British athletes may skip London Opening Ceremony
What's an Olympic Opening Ceremony without Olympic athletes? We may find that out in London next year, as several high-profile British athletes are contemplating boycotting the Opening Ceremony.
Coaches have already banned the entire British track and field squad from taking part in the London 2012 ceremony, even though they will not be competing until at least a week later. Britain's swimming team is likely to follow suit.
It means spectators who have paid as much as $3,280 for a ticket will almost certainly be deprived of seeing big names such as the heptathlete Jessica Ennis, the swimmer Rebecca Adlington and the teenage diver Tom Daley parade through the Olympic stadium, The Sunday (London) Times reported.
Phillips Idowu, the triple jumper, will also skip the event, while doubts remain over the attendance of Sir Chris Hoy and Victoria Pendleton, the Olympic cycling champions.
The problem? Staging for the Opening Ceremony can take up to eight hours. For much of it, the athletes are standing and walking. It's common practice for athletes who are competing soon after the ceremony to skip it, but the time spent on the ceremony is discouraging all athletes to participate.

LONDON - Amy Winehouse's mother said the singer seemed unwell a day before she died, a British newspaper reported Sunday, while her family mourned the loss of "a wonderful daughter, sister, niece" and more tributes flowed in from fans and fellow performers.
A mound of flowers, messages and handwritten notes grew Sunday outside of the north London home where ambulance crews found the singer dead before they arrived on Saturday.
"R.I.P. Never Forgotten," read one message, while another said "It's all right, love. Go now."
The Sunday Mirror quoted Janis Winehouse as saying she believed it was "only a matter of time" before her daughter died. The 27-year-old singer had publicly struggled with drug and alcohol abuse for years.
"She seemed out of it. But her passing so suddenly still hasn't hit me," Janis told the tabloid.
Police said the cause of her death is being treated as "unexplained," rejecting speculation that she died from a drug overdose as "inappropriate." The circumstances surrounding her death are not yet clear, but police said a post-mortem is expected Monday or Tuesday.
